Shire council re-signs commitment to Ned

STORY TOLD: The Ned Kelly touring route is an important part of the region’s history, including the Roundabout Monument and Courthouse (in background), and is backed by Mansfield Shire Council.

MANSFIELD Shire Council has re-signed its commitment to the Ned Kelly Touring Route Committee to promote the key Ned Kelly historic sites across Victoria and NSW.

The committee has existed for a number of years and has developed themed branding, interpretive signage, a website, video, brochure collateral and promotes Ned Kelly related events and operator product.

“The cost is $1500 per annum which we see as a sound investment in an important piece of our local heritage and an extra appeal for our visitors,” Mansfield Shire mayor Paul Sladdin said.

Members of the committee include representatives from Benalla and Wangaratta rural cities, Mansfield, Indigo, Jerilderie and Strathbogie shire councils and Victoria Police.

Mansfield’s local key sites of interest on the touring route include the courthouse, the police monument at the roundabout, the cemetery and Stringybark Creek with the Kelly Tree.

A little further afield is Power’s Lookout.
