THE Jamieson community had two reasons to celebrate over the weekend after being chosen as the location for the official VICSES launch of North East FloodSafe Week, and also the opportunity to show residents the new Jamieson Local Flood Guide.
FloodSafe Week is currently running from May 23–29 and began in a formal capacity on Sunday at the Jamieson CFA Fire Station.
Members from the VICSES, Jamieson CFA and Community Group all gathered for sandbag training and flood information which was followed by a barbecue lunch.
At the same time, 18 months of community work was rewarded with the official launch of the Jamieson Local Flood Guide.
“We’ve been working on this for some time,” Jamieson CFA member, Chris Badrock, said.
“This is a big deal for us, it’s not just about the houses that could be directly affected by flood, but also about the fact that, in severe flooding, the community of Jamieson can become isolated.
