VICROADS have offered just $19,000 to the Mansfield Shire Council to fund their crossing supervisor program.
The official letter of offer formed part of the council budget submissions, heard publicly at yesterday’s meeting.
The total cost of the crossing supervisor program is more than $70,000 – and despite the State Government mandating that VicRoads would fund 50 per cent of the service, the $19,000 contribution falls considerably short.
The funding difference comes from council running five separate crossing sites, and VicRoads offering to fund just three.
“I have asked them that question,” council chief executive officer Alex Green said.
“We have been told (last week) that there are some discrepancies in their approach and they are more than happy to work with each council on the details – we are seeking further information.”
