DURING the last presentation of the public forum for Mansfield Shire Council submissions last week, former councillor Ellen Hogan spoke openly on her concerns over the increasing overall costs to the shire.
“Given the public was advised both verbally and through the press that council’s finances were in need of an overhaul, it was surprising that staff costs and general costs are projected to increase as indicated in the draft budget,” Ms Hogan said.
“This increase would appear to be above the projected savings described in the budget documents.”
Ms Hogan’s main question to council was when will this council come to terms with this issue and create a financial solution to ensure the Mansfield Shire remains viable?
She pointed out that in the 2017-18 draft council plan some 12-14 strategies were earmarked to be completed – at additional costs and adding to council’s financial woes.
Among the strategies was a local policy on housing provision covering issues such as the type, mix, subdivision, design and best practice environment design – currently under way at an estimated $20,000.
