THE Mansfield Race Club has received a funding windfall to help improve track conditions.

Bill Sykes (MLA, Benalla) last week announced the Victorian Government’s contribution of $15,710 towards works at the Mansfield racecourse.

Total cost of the project is expected to be around $20,000.

Racing Victoria, Country Racing Victoria and the Mansfield District Racing Club have provided the remaining funds for the project, which will involve upgrades to running rails and the track’s irrigation system.

Mr Sykes said upgrading the watering system at Mansfield racecourse will better prepare the track for race days, while the new lightweight plastic running rails will make racing much safer for jockeys and horses.
