A better effort despite the score

THE Kyabram Bombers visited the Eagles Nest for the first match up with Mansfield for 2014 and took home a 93-point victory in round 11 of the GVFL premiership.

It was a grey, cold and ultimately wet day, more so for the Eagles supporters, who saw their team slip from a quality performance in the first quarter to be overrun by the end of the match.

The first term saw the senior Eagles lift their game with silky skills, strong use of the ball and accurate kicking, to take a five-point lead into the first break.

However, the Eagles failed to score in the second quarter turning that five-point lead into a 16-point deficit at the long break.

“It was a really good first half, even though Kyabram got a lead by half time,” senior coach Simon Dolling said.

“The boys played well against a team sitting third on the ladder.

“The work rate and effort from the boys was absolutely fantastic in the first half – I couldn’t question their want at the ball.”
