THE Mansfield Race Club is turning local racing into a festive affair this year, with the traditional Melbourne Cup Picnic Day race meeting bigger and better.

Preparations for the traditional Melbourne Cup Picnic Day race meeting has seen an additional $3000 in prize money available for each race to attract a stronger field of horses.

Winners will also receive an engraved Catanach’s Sterling Silver Tray.

Along with the racing, there will also be seven different fashions on the field categories, a fillies champagne bar, a tarot reader, fun for the kids, roving musicians and plenty of local food and produce.

Racing club president, Garry Hubbard, is excited that Catanach’s (jewellers) has “jumped” on board as the major headline sponsor for the Melbourne Cup Day program and our local Marks IGA Supermarket has again generously thrown their support as the sponsor for the Fashions on the Field.

Lisa Davies, coordinator of the Fashions on the Field program, said that this year a special category for ‘Ms Mansfield’ will be introduced to generate heightened excitement exclusively for our lovely ladies living in the Shire of Mansfield.

Sites are now available for those wanting to host their own marquee, the race club offers an exclusive Crown Marquee All Inclusive Experience package for $175 per head – which will give you gate entry, gourmet luncheon, wine-beer-bubbles, television coverage, roving jazz minstrels and a race book.
