SIMON Gerrans has capped off another great season by taking silver in the Men’s Road Race at the UCI Cycling World Championships in Ponferrada, Spain on Sunday.
It was a nail-biting finish, with Gerrans beaten by a couple of bike lengths by Poland’s Michal Kwiatkowski after 285km of intense road racing.
Gerrans’ medal was Australia’s fifth in the event’s professional era, and Australia’s sixth medal of the week at the championships.
“Happy with the result, but at the same time just slightly disappointed,” Gerrans said after the race.
“I raced a good race, I had fantastic support from Aussie team-mates as usual, I can’t thank them enough.
“It has been a fantastic world championship for Australia.”
