Motorcyclists open hearts to help the needy

BEFORE WE GO: The Mansfield American Motorcycle Club assembled last Saturday for a ride to Harrietville, and presented a cheque to the Deakin Allen/Marg Coombs Children’s Welfare Trust. Pictured with club members are (front row from left) Deakin Allen, Imogen Lockhart, trust board member Paula Allen, club president Rob ‘Mossy’ Moss and Holly Lockhart.

IN his book “The Descent of Man”, Charles Darwin wrote “communities most likely to flourish are those with the most sympathetic members”.

Mansfield’s community certainly has its share of “sympathetic members”, including those who belong to the American Motorcycle Club.

This group are not “just a bunch of bikies” hooning around on their Harley Davidsons – they are local businessmen, and working men and women, who love to ride bikes and raise money.

Last Saturday the club presented a cheque to the Deakin Allen/Marg Coombs Children’s Welfare Trust for $6000, money raised through a variety of activities, including ‘Locky’s Run’.

This annual ride, held at the end of March, celebrated the life of Geoff Lockhart, who passed away eight years ago.

As well as raising $6000 for the trust, the club also raised $3000 for Mr Lockhart’s children.
