Honour board returns

Maindample school’s Honour Roll has been restored and returned to the community. The honour board was presented to former school student Joe Hutchinson and his wife Sheila, and president of the Maindample District Progress Association Jeni Fleming on Friday evening. Mansfield RSL sub-branch president Bruce Bingham said it was a pleasure to present the honour board back to the community and it was with many thanks to Neil Phipps for his magnificent restoration works. FORMER Maindample school’s Honour Board commemorating those who served in World Wars from the community will be hung in a pride of place for all to see.

Having been fully restored it was presented back to the community on Friday evening by Mansfield RSL sub-branch president Bruce Bingham.

Mr Bingham outlined how and when it was found before handing it over to representative of the Maindample District Progress Association.

“There are photos of when the honour board was found – under a gum tree where it had been discarded when the school building was moved back in the 1950s,” Mr Bingham said.

“The board was rescued and placed in the RSL building and when we renovated this building some years ago we found it – still in its very poor state.

“But now it has been magnificently restored thanks to Neil Phipps and his team at the Men’s Shed.
