DRAWING from an early age must be a great help, but living in beautiful Jamieson should put the snow on top and help to make an artist one with nature.
Painter Julie Guppy enjoys both these attributes and the results show in her work.
Like other artists we have contacted, Julie said she has been drawing ever since she could remember – firstly with coloured pencils and later on in a switch to oil painting, around 40 years ago which she has pursued with a passion – even as an obsession – for the last 10 years or so.
Recently retired from her position at Jamieson Post Office, Julie says she is now ready to spend full time on painting ‘with a bit of gardening and housekeeping thrown in’.
In her studio – which husband Alan actually built for himself but lost to art – Julie is surrounded by paintings, mostly landscapes, some quite close to home.
“I’m trying to produce works like Arthur Streeton, but it’ll never work,” she said.
