IT appears Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews’ public holiday for grand final eve was somewhat of a success for Mansfield.
Thousands of visitors left Melbourne and poured into the region starting on Thursday and continuing through to Saturday.
Many businesses had to make the decision on whether to pay higher wages to staff or close their doors on Friday for the day – for those that stayed open it appears to have been a success.
Business operators spoken to after the day were all fairly pleased with the results of customers through their doors.
Marks IGA was one store that kept its doors open and was reasonably busy to compensate the additional staff costs.
“We had a busier Thursday, were fairly solid on the Friday and busy again for Saturday,” Greg Marks told the Courier.
