Boat ramp for Howqua one step closer

Residents at Howqua held an informal meeting over the weekend with Mansfield Shire tourism economic development officer, Ian Geer, and Gary Fox from Goulburn Murray Water (both pictured) to discuss the possibility of having a boat ramp installed.

HOWQUA residents are one step closer to having their own boat ramp after a meeting held over this past weekend.

Not put off by the rain, both Ian Geer, Mansfield Shire tourism economic development officer, and Gary Fox, representing Goulburn Murray Water, met with residents to discuss the viability of having a boat ramp built at the end of Barnett’s Road.

“People use the road as a boat ramp as it goes straight to the water, but it’s not a boat ramp – people are driving on the foreshore,” concerned local David Munn said.

“With the lake dropping we can’t get in anywhere – the only boat ramp is the private one at the caravan park and we can’t always access that.”

Mr Munn organised the meeting, along with a petition calling for the ramp to be built as soon as possible.

“We want to have something happen here – it’s important because we have the towns of Howqua, Jamieson and Macs Cove with no water access,” Mr Munn said.
