Art, wine and poetry at the Maze and Gardens

A VISIT to the High Country Maze, Gardens and Nursery is a must this Sunday, October 29, and over the festival weekend with more than just the gardens to wander.

Two special events are happening at the Gough’s Bay venue.

Three artists will display their works at the Gallery – which features world renowned artist Tony Pridham’s works along with others for this special exhibition.

As part of the MOST Studio trail this exhibition is sure to please all art lovers with all works by local artists.

Also happening at the Maze will be an Open Poetry Mic evening event in the Garden, presented by the High Country Poets, happening on Sunday from 4.30pm through 8pm.

Entry for this event will be $5.

This is a picnic event, so pack your hamper, rug and chair and relax on the lawns of the gardens – there may be some platters available still through Nicki Goudberg at the café but be quick and give her a call to pre-order.

The poetry sessions will possibly be intertwined with some live music from two guest musicians.

Among the poets expected to present are Val Kirley, Leonie Kinsela, Leanne Eldridge, Jeremy Kaye, Wayne Anderson and yes, also a writer and poet – Nicki Goudberg; just a few of the Poetry members.

And of course anyone and everyone can present their own works or do a reading of your favourite poem – just come along.

The evening is open to all to enjoy a wine (Nicki’s bar will remain open), relax in the shade of the trees on the lawns and listen to what our local poets have to offer.

But prior to the poetry event take time to wander the gardens.

The roses will be in full bloom, the spring and early summer flowers will be a picture and then order a coffee and cake before settling back for the poetry evening.

As from the beginning of October the maze, gallery and gardens are opening Wednesdays for Devonshire teas in the garden 11am-3pm; Weekends, school and public holidays opening hours are 10am to 5pm.

Nicki operates the café serving popular share platters including Milawa cheeses, charcuterie and Mt Zero olives– returning after the winter break, back from October.

Each Saturday also from October Nicki and Tony are hosting a cocktail happy hour from 4-5pm - all cocktails are $16.
