From Mansfield to Mickey Mouse

For Tolmie’s Adam Wagstaff winning a family trip to Disneyland for shopping at his local Foodworks supermarket was an unbelievable thrill.

Adam is well known for his volunteer work in the local community of Mansfield including the hospital and church groups.

He is also a keen photographer and puts together calendars that are sold at the Mansfield Foodworks as an annual fundraiser.

When the news came through more than a week ago Adam said, “I thought it was a scam” but a visit to see the local store manager Andrew Marshall soon convinced him it was true, but he is still pinching himself.

Adam was entered into the competition at his local Foodworks which is owned by the Reddrop Group (Michael & Tina Reddrop).

Entries were received from 186 Foodworks Supermarkets, local and express stores in Victoria, NSW, and Queensland.

“Foodworks has run many major national competitions of this scale over the years, designed to excite and reward our customers,” said Australian United Retailers (AUR) local area marketing campaign coordinator, Zoe Vanderknijff.

“This year we wanted to offer something truly magical — a $20,000 dream holiday to Disneyland California, creating a once-in-a-lifetime experience for one lucky winner."

According to Zoe the motivation for running the competition is two-fold: to reward our loyal, everyday shoppers who choose Foodworks as their local grocery destination (we also gave away a $500 shopping voucher each week for the promotion), and to create excitement and in-store theatre, reinforcing our commitment to offer customers the very best shopping experience.

“This campaign is our way of saying thank you to those regular and faithful shoppers, while also introducing something fun and rewarding to the broader community,” Zoe added.

When asked how winners respond to the news, Zoe said the reactions are incredibly heart-warming.

“Whether it’s families, young couples, or long-time locals, we’ve seen everything from tears of joy to disbelief when customers find out they’ve won," she said.

“The idea of taking the kids to Disneyland California — fully paid for — is something most families only dream of.

“Being able to deliver that dream is one of the best parts of the promotion."

A presentation was made to Adam by representatives from Foodworks and AUR at the Mansfield store last Friday.

“I want to thank Foodworks for organising this major event; I’m overwhelmed and surprised by such a fantastic opportunity to go to the USA,” said Adam.

“I especially want to thank the best supermarket manager in the North East,” he added, referring to Mansfield’s Andrew Marshall.

“I also thank AUR’s Zoe and Jason, Michael and Tina Reddrop, and Directions Travel, thank you so much."

Andrew said it was the first time a major prize had been won at his store.

“It is so good to give it to someone like Adam so involved in his local community through his volunteering,” he said.

For Adam it is too soon to say who will join him on this epic trip but there is no doubt there will be plenty of photography opportunities on offer.
