Way Back Wednesday – a look back at what was making news 20 years ago this week

WHILE the lead in and photo of Denise Kelleher's story adorned page one, Mansfield's adventure tourism operators were taking their public liability insurance pain to the streets, organising a rally through High Street to protest soaring premiums.

Also on High Street, a Mansfield man was left in a serious condition after a stabbing attack early Saturday morning, all of which combined for a tense lead up to the upcoming High Country Harvest Festival and Merrijig Rodeo.

In sport, Delatite was the champion house at St Mary's Primary swimming sports, and Mansfield Cricket Club had a resounding victory.

Simon Gerrans emphasised his standing as one of Australia's top young cyclists with a barnstorming performance in the Tour of Tasmania, and Alex 'Chumpy' Pullin was on a high after recently finishing fifth in the U15 snowboarding giant slalom world championship in Italy.
