Police lose power over public drunks

THE State Government’s new public drunkenness laws which took effect on November 7 see public intoxication no longer being a crime in Victoria.

That means police aren't able to arrest people for being drunk and detain them in their cells - police will have no powers to deal with public drunkenness.
