Up2Us Landcare Alliance is offering free site visits and tailored woody weed management plans to support landholders in tackling invasive weeds across the Mansfield Shire.
We are now moving into the woody weed control season, which kicks off after the last frost in November and runs through until April—or until the autumn frosts return.
This is the most effective time to control woody weeds, as they are actively growing and most responsive to management.
Woody weeds of particular significance in the Mansfield Shire include blackberry, gorse, broom, sweet briar, hawthorn, and thistle species that have grown beyond their initial rosette form.
Without intervention, these species can quickly spread, threatening biodiversity, waterways, and productive farmland.

Up2Us Project Officer Rhiannon Quigley said the organisation was committed to supporting landholders to tackle their woody weeds, with this project now in its eighth year. "The free site visits and management plans form part of a broader, long-running program that helps landholders manage woody weeds on private property,” she said.
This initiative is funded through the Victorian Landcare Program and supported by the Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority (GBCMA), ensuring that landholders can access high-quality support at no cost over the next 12 months.
