Peter Barns wins Monthly Medal

IT was a very busy week for the ground staff and golf shop personnel with three major social golfing groups playing plus four handicap pennant teams on Sunday.

Plus the Foodworks Monthly Medal.

Tuesday results for the Stableford competition and an acceptable number of contestants (27), albeit missing approximately 16 regular players who ventured to Swan Hill.

First was Charlie Heath 39 pts playing off 19, second was Bob Cullen 36 pts on a countback playing off 14, and third Chris Purcell 35 pts playing off 30.

Good to see club board member Charlie again in the winner's circle along with Bob and Chris who are also often mentioned.

Thursday's Stableford had a sound field of 51 players.

A grade first went to Cecil McIntosh 36 pts off 14, second was Jim Sullivan 35 pts on a countback off 17, to third Taki Murakami 35 pts off 10.

B grade was won by Laurie Harcus 40 pts off 21, second Daryl Horwood 39 pts playing off 22, and third Colin Whytcross 38 pts on a countback off 26.

Good win Cecil, that will bring a smile to the dial.

A happy second for Jim Sullivan, father in law of Andrew (Ossie) Armsden one of our many fine builders within the club and a prize–winner on Saturday.

Jim and wife Chris have just returned from three months in QLD.

They also join the many golfing families who surround the golf course, in particular living along the fourteenth hole.

Colin is currently excelling and has been in the major prize winners for the past three weeks. Can it keep going?

The 'morning group' are players who have a mini comp and play as a group under the leadership of Tom Swan.

They are a very important part of the success of the Thursday competition.

Thanks Tom.

Winners this week Cecil, Colin ad Peter all play with this group.

Saturday Stroke and Monthly Medal and in A Grade Craig Walsh had 71 playing off 6, winning on a countback from Kane Blunt, who also shot 71 playing off 6.

Andrew Armsden had a handy 72 playing off 12.

Good win 'Walshy' just nudging out his mate 'Kano'.

Kane is doing fine service, looking after the course in superintendent Cooksey's absence as he is holidaying in QLD.

And taking the praise for allaying the continuous rain up there – because he has influence 'up there' – work that out.

Andrew was mentioned earlier on and put in a very sound performance.

B Grade was taken out by Peter Barnes net 67 off 17, Paul Lange took second with 69 off 15, and Greg Millott had 71 off 27.

The Monthly Medal sponsored by Foodworks goes to Peter Barns.

Nothing but admiration for Peter's net 67, four shots below his handicap and another of 'the morning crew'.

A very good score for Paul who doesn't get to play as much as he would like.

Maybe after he finishes building his new house more time may be available?

Greg (Bugsy to his friends) has been mentioned regularly since Christmas, a notable member of the Monday 'skins' group where money is up for grabs and much banter and sledging is rife.

The handicap pennant teams from Corowa, Benalla, Rutherglen and Jubilee lavished praise on our course and facilities.

Excellent news also – our scratch Pennant had a win – four matches to one against Corowa.

They have now won the first two rounds of the season and are the pride of the male members.

Stay well, stay happy.
