Solid Scales in searing temperatures and narrow loss

IT was an extremely hot Saturday when the Delatite 1st XI arrived in Wangaratta to take on the Wangaratta Magpies at the Norm Minns Oval in round 8 of WDCA A Grade cricket.

The Magpies won the toss and elected to bat on the well–grassed wicket and amassed a grand total of 3/191 at the completion of the allocated 40 overs.

The two opening batsmen made over 60 runs each with the first wicket falling at 112 runs.

While the Delatite lads fielded quite well, only speedster Max Sampson was the wicket–taker with 3/54 from his eight over spell.

Following the half–time break where the Magpies supplied a choice of icy poles that were greatly appreciated by the exhausted Delatite boys due to the oppressive heat (39 degrees), Delatite commenced the task of reaching the total set by the Magpies with The Earl ...
