Success for Margie Franke–Williams at Golf Australia Autumn Tournament

ANOTHER busy week for Mansfield's travelling golfing ladies with a number of events on.

Seven of our girls played in the Golf Australia Autumn Tournament, which was a 36–hole event run at Myrtleford and Bright Golf Clubs.

With a great field of 163, there was plenty of competition, but our own Margie Franke–Williams took it in her stride and was thrilled to be runner up of the nett competition over all.

Franke–Williams also took out both the D Grade nett and gross competitions.

Lyn Poulson also had a great couple of days, being gross runner–up in C Grade, while Shelly Comerford was third in the same.

Meanwhile our ladies captain Sheryl Sargent and co–vice captain Linda Brook were having a fabulous time at The Peninsula Golf Course, both playing there for the first time in that club's annual Bowl.

While they didn't come home with the silverware, they both loved the course and played very well considering its difficulty.

On Friday, another trio were representing Mansfield at Corowa for their Bowl, but again, no prize winners to report.

Back at home we also had a huge day on Wednesday which was Ladies Open Day.

The ladies had a great field of 40, including around 12 ladies who are quite new to golf – having recently joined or completed Get Into Golf Clinics.

Always a great day where we love to introduce the newbies to our Wednesday comp, we played 14 holes of Pinehurst Foursome with pairings of experience and fresh faces.

Winners of the day were Glenis Skinner and Taryn Murphy (until recently, Taryn worked in the Pro Shop, so great to see her out there on the "other side"). Skinner and Murphy had 36 points.

Runners up were Lesley Anderson and Lorraine Wilson, and third Linda Brook with Sharon Gysberts.

Nearest the pins went to Lesley Anderson 3rd, Sam Bailey 7th, Colleen Leeds 16th and second shot on 9th was Meredith Flanders/Patsy Smiles and on the 12th, Lesley Anderson/Lorraine Wilson.

The game was followed by lunch in The Ranges, and much retail therapy with Lauryn Weatherall from Lolli Golf Clothing having her range on display and taking orders for her great made–to–order outfits.

Lauryn also very generously sponsored the day with prizes, NTP prizes and gift bags for all.

On Saturday, the annual KJ Evans Foursomes was played.

This 27–hole scratch event is a board event run in memory of the late K J Evans.

Winners of the ladies event were Sam Bailey and Glenis Skinner with a gross score of 138. Runners up with 143 were Linda Brook and Sheryl Sargent on a countback to third place Gayle Wells and Sue Parsons.

The nett prize also went to Bailey and Skinner.
