DOMINATING Mansfield Police activity over the past week has been the evacuation of camping grounds and higher bush retreats due to bushfires sweeping across the Alpine region.

Sergeant Nathan Pelling said once Premier Daniel Andrews declared Mansfield and the Alpine regions under a State of Disaster, the majority of officers on duty spent several days patrolling camp grounds and the bush asking people to leave.

“It was non-stop for our officers, particularly last Friday,” Sgt Pelling said.
