UPCOMING improvement works on the Midland Link Highway between Midland Highway and Magills Lane have been given the green light by Regional Roads Victoria (RRV) and are set to commence on January 10, 2023.

BENALLA–Mansfield Road Upgrade Group (B–MRUG) convenor Don Cummins is very happy that this section is to be upgraded after a couple of setbacks.

"Our group is mindful of the demands on VicRoads at this time and we have been worried that the money may have been reallocated elsewhere," said Mr Cummins.

"B–MRUG will now work towards getting funding for widening the Benalla–Mansfield road by one metre either side to accommodate the huge increase in traffic this road has sustained over the last few years.

"All expert advice to our group (including advice from VicRoads officers) has been that widening the roadway is the most efficient and effective way of lowering the accident rate on this busy road."

As part of the upcoming works, RRV will be implementing pavement improvements and widening the road to increase lane widths and include sealed shoulders as well as drainage improvements in some areas.

The works will also see the installation of a wide centreline treatment and audio tactile linemarking to reduce the risk of head–on collisions and run–off–road collisions.

Works are expected to take approximately 18 weeks, weather permitting.

Lane closures will be required in sections and temporary traffic lights will be in place to assist with traffic movements and speeds will be reduced to protect the safety of roadworkers and motorists.

Delays of 10 to 15 minutes may be experienced, so please allow extra time when travelling through the area.
