Surburbia in the High Country

AFFORDABLE housing is necessary but why turn our beautiful high country into suburbia with high density housing estates?

These houses on very small blocks are now being built and more are planned.

Developers - what about more green space for families, the dog, the barbecue, a vegetable garden etc.

Let’s not turn our great country town into the surburban sprawl!

Agricultural Society says thanks to community

I WISH to thank the people of Mansfield for their support for our Agricultural Show.

After three years of missed shows there were many jobs to be picked up once again and generous people offered their help in many ways.

There is so much that happens behind the scenes and I would like to acknowledge the work of the stewards who spend long hours organising entries.

The work of people in the Ed Harris Pavilion and the Scout Hall resulted in an abundance of writing, glorious flowers, baked items, visual entries and fleeces.

The huge crowd certainly put pressure on our catering teams and they responded with smiles, more scones, more sandwiches and BBQ food.

In the horse arena the number of rings being judged concurrently created a challenge for the organisers and they did a wonderful job of keeping the classes running smoothly and managing the safe movement of horses and riders in and out of the rings.

The poultry pavilion and the animal nursery were drawcards, with people viewing the friendliest chook and the children petting lambs and baby chickens.

Children’s engagement is always a focus for the committee and competitions such as the Doggy Dress Up and the Lolly Scramble are fun free events which they love.

Locals put their hands up to show their precious restored vehicles, demonstrate whip-cracking and to take part in the Dog High Jump competition.

The entrants for the world first Wazzacow competition provided a hilarious sight as they tried steer the zero-turn lawnmower while chasing a pretend cow.

Finally, the Mansfield Show happens because of a dedicated and very hard-working committee and I wish particularly to thank them for creating this wonderful day for us all.

Yours sincerely
