Path to nowhere!
MANSFIELD now has a footpath between the district hospital and ‘Nowhere’ - that is the busy cross-road junction of Malcolm Street and Kidston Parade.
The white footpath marking shows a person following an arrow indicating, give up and walk all the way back to the hospital.
The only alternatives are walking on the edge of Kidston Parade’s northern section and the southern gravel section, or Malcolm Street.
None of these have footpaths so walker’s safety can depend on vehicle drivers.
Parts of the grassed edges along Kidston Parade are mown but trenches, uneven ground or mud can make it impractical for pedestrians with dogs, prams, walking aids or riders of mobility scooters.
The sadly clever and funny ABC program ’Utopia’, now on iview, shows the Nation Building Authority staff trying to get construction projects done in the face of endless backflips, government interference and ever-shifting priorities.
I don’t remember an episode about a footpath to Nowhere but for now I’ll appreciate the humor and exercise elsewhere.
As some of the Utopia writers are familiar with Mansfield perhaps an episode in a new season will include an unfinished footpath.

JUST a short note about roundabout safety.
It would be good if people indicated when they are leaving a roundabout! The law states if going straight through, then you don’t have to indicate. If you’re turning you must indicate. So many near misses because people don’t indicate. Why not let pedestrians know your intentions.
Would be good to see police reminding drivers of the road rules.
