THE Mansfield Historical Society is one step closer to starting construction on its new display centre, with one of the carriages on display being relocated last Friday.
The carriage was lifted by cranes to be next to its counterpart, resting it on a parallel track purpose built for the display.
It is an important first step in the process, with the relocation making room for the future construction.
Displays will feature a timeline of the area including fish fossils, stories of Taungurung and history of settlement, including faming, mining, timber, railway and more.
The historical society has already secured funding from the Federal Government, a grant from Mansfield Community bank and donations from residents and visitors.
Plans for the new museum can be viewed at the station which opens to the public each Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 3pm or by appointment.
