THE Mansfield Bowls Club's Men’s Championships played on Sunday saw a great game between John Foots and Peter Roberts with Foots leading on the 17th end.

Roberts began to find his range narrowing the gap but Foots held on to win 25/16.

In the other final it was a close tussle between Chris Laws and Trevor Thompson with Chris hitting the lead 16/13, but Thompson promptly won 6 ends to take the win 26/18.

The afternoon's grand final between Foots and Thompson saw Foots take the win for his first ever Men’s Championship 25 shots to 2.

Tuesday's Home Pennant saw the Green team defeat the Orange team 21/14, while the Pink team also secured a great win against the Gold team 27/13.

Blue team won over the White team 22/17, and Red also took the win against Black 23/18.

In the final game it was an exciting draw between the Yellow on 26 shots all against the Lime.

The ladder sees Pink on top with 16pts +46 from Lime on 16pts +39; Green on 16pts +18, Yellow 14pts +2; Orange 12pts +15, White 10pts +3, Red 8pts –28, Blue 6pts –18, Gold 2pts –41 and lucky last is Black on no pts –36.

Tuesday also saw the O&M midweek pennant with Mansfield playing at home against Yackandandah.

On the day, Mansfield were far too strong taking a very convincing win 82 shots to 42.

Lyn Foots, Chris Laws, Mark Bettany and Enid Smith were out played early being down after the 10th end but Mansfield picked up while 'Yack' hit back leading by 6 on the 16th end.

Mansfield picked up a count of 6 to level the score at 17 all; Mansfield managed to win three shots on the last end to snatch the win 21 shots to 20.

George Peterson, Elaine Peterson, Brian Revell and Lyn Holland got off to a flyer lead and only allowed their opponents to win 6 ends for the rest of the game taking a very commanding win 29 shots to 11.

The final rink of John Foots, Noel Jackson, Marian Ryan and Irene Fuller were down early 1 shot 8, but quickly turned the game around winning 31 shots to 3, smashing their opponents 32/11.

The ladder sees Mansfield still on top and will play Benalla at home this week.

Thursday saw the final two rounds of the ladies 100up; morning winners being Elaine Peterson over Yvonne Robinson in a close game 100/95 and Lyn Foots had a win over Glenda Revell 101/47.

The final saw a close battle with the scores being on 58pts a piece after 16 ends, and after a ding-dong battle, Lyn took the win 102/84. Congratulations to both players.

Also on Thursday the men played their catch up rounds of the Men’s Championship after players had been involved in State events.

The morning Peter Roberts came up against Mike Harrison with the game in the balance all day.

After a mammoth 29 ends, Roberts took a close win 26 shots to 21.

In the afternoon Roberts played Shane O’Brien and with O'Brien just beginning to learn his craft, Roberts was too experienced, taking the win 25 shots to 10.

Friday saw some six social bowlers battling the elements; winners on the day were Dom Diaz, Ian Morley and Alan Hatcher with 1 win 12pts.

Saturday saw the O&M A2 side travelling to Benalla, and after a massive down poor, all teams were eventually able to play on their carpet greens; Mansfield taking the win 84 shots to 73.

Mike Harrison, Peter Roberts, Chris Laws and Shane O’Brien were outplayed; Benalla took an easy win 29 shots to 9.

Lyn Foots, Ray Close, Kevin Nickelson and Mick Hoban played strongly all day taking an awesome win 33 shots to 9.

George Peterson, Elaine Peterson, Noel Jackson and Marian Ryan got away to a good start leading 11 shots to 7 after 8 ends; Benalla won 10 of the last 13 ends taking the win 23 shots 15.

The final rink of Ray Robinson, Graham Smith, Sid Revell and Enid Smith were down early but after winning 10 ends in a row they blitzed their opponents winning 27 shots 12.

The ladder sees Mansfield still in 6th spot on the ladder and will play Yarrawonga at home this week.

The A4 side played Yackandandah at home taking a good win 81 shots to 70.

Steve Spence, Irene Fuller, Yvonne Robinson and Doug Morley took a great win 28 shots to 10.

Graeme Tyers, Nick Klein, Don Cameron and Pam Zierk-Mahoney snatched a narrow win after a challenging game taking 5 of the last 6 ends finishing 22 shots to 20.

Gary Fuller, Steve Lewis, Tom Tomic and Ken Rainsbury had a good start but Yackandandah were too strong taking the win 23 shots to 11.

The final rink of Rick Nichols, Vicki Klein, Lyn Holland and Ross Parsons had a great start but Yackandandah kept plugging away but Mansfield had the better of them taking the win 20 shots to 17.

Mansfield remains in sixth spot on the ladder and will play YMGCR this Saturday at home.
