IN stellar conditions on Saturday the Bonnie Doon senior team demonstrated dynamic skills at their home ground flattening the Whorouly Lions by 167 points.

The Lions fought hard, but their defensive efforts were no match for the mighty Bombers who remain in top position on the Ovens and King football league ladder with two weeks to go until the finals.

On Saturday, the final scores were Bonnie Doon with 26.19 (175) over the Whorouly Lions 0.8 (8).

In an explosive first quarter the Bombers powered through booting four goals and setting the tone for rest of the match, while the Lions were only able to score a handful of behinds.

In the second quarter the Bombers continued to dominate, kicking nine more goals and in the third another seven.

In the final quarter they came away with the victory against Whorouly.

Head coach of the Bonnie Doon senior team Campbell Smedley said in a field of best players everyone on the team performed well contributing to an exceptional final score on the weekend.

“James Octigan kicked three goals and has played really great footy this year and bringing that team-first attitude and contesting well in the air,” he said.

Jay Jay Curtain also pushed through three goals and showed true determination.

“Coming into finals it was great to get a few points back on the path,” Smedley said.

“We had five senior players come back in two weeks before finals and got a win in before the real stuff begins.”

Next week, the Bombers will face Tarrawingee at the Bonnie Doon Recreation Reserve.

“If we can just keep everyone fit and healthy and keep playing the way that we’ve been playing all year hopefully we’ll get the job done,” Smedley said.

The Bombers will come up against the Tarrawingee Bulldogs on Saturday August 17.

First bounce is at 2pm.

The Bonnie Doon Reserves defeated Whorouly by 91 points with 18.8 (116) over 4.1 (25).
