Mansfield Primary School Y 5 & 6 girls football report

By Edie and Matilda M

ON Thursday August 22 at 7am, the MPS Year 5 & 6 girls footy team arrived at school to go to the State Australian Football Primary Girls State Final in Heidelberg.

We tipped all our lollies into a big container.

The bus ride was long but it sure was loud.

Scout and Edie were the loudest on the bus.

We arrived at the oval and got our brand-new jerseys.

They looked spectacular.

Thank you to Bertalli's Bakery and Mansfield Laundrette.

The first game was against the Basin Primary School.

It was a tough game, but we put up a good fight.

Using our bumper bars and strong tackles, we were able to keep stopping the opposition.

Edie was sensational throughout the game, even the umpire called her, “A tackling machine”.

Georgia was able to keep us going forward with some long kicks.

The game finished and we had a 40-minute break, full of laughter and lollies.

At 12:30pm we got ready for our second game against Drouin Primary School.

The scores were level at half time but then they got away in the second half.

Addi and Ava both played in the midfield and set us up for lots of attacking chances.

Ava kicked an amazing goal! We had another 40-minute break, with even more lollies.

We were all hyped up.

Our last game was against Barwon Heads Primary School.

It was a very tough game.

Sophie and Ruby continued to put in some amazing defensive efforts with Ruby taking several strong marks.

We tried our best and put a lot of effort onto the game. Everyone had a great time.

Sadly, we lost but we all had so much fun!

The bus ride home started quiet until the lollies kicked in.

Macey E and Ruby were the loudest on the bus.

We had a stretch and toilet stop at Yea.

Mr Kirkby (our coach) was great at encouraging us and giving us inspirational pre, half time and post games speeches.

He made sure we were using our ‘bumper bars’, tackling, kicking, handballing and playing tough.

We would all like to thank Mr K, Miss French and all the parent helpers that came on the bus for taking us to state finals.

A big thank you to all the family members who drove to Heidelberg to cheer us on.

We really worked hard to get to state finals, and everyone should be so proud of themselves.
