AFTER a tremendously successful inaugural season, the Mansfield Football Netball Club senior women’s side is gearing up for 2025.
Having played off in the semi final in the team's first year under the tutelage of Ant Foubister, 2025 will see a different coaching line-up for the women headed up by David Holliday and assisted by 2024 stand-out player Amy Starzer.
David or ‘Davey’ as he is fondly known, moved to Mansfield in 2019 after playing both AFL and rugby league in his home town city of Perth, Western Australia.
More recently Davey has coached the Mansfield under 18 side over the last three seasons, reaching finals and supporting the promotion of many of our under 18 talent to the senior Mansfield side.
Davey's philosophy and focus heading into the new season is for the team is to take the next step, which includes continued development in basic skills and fitness; developing a game plan that works to the strengths of the team; acquiring and promoting local talent; fostering an environment where success follows from our local junior development and creating an inclusive and positive experience for women to play football.
Davey will be ably assisted by Amy Starzer.
Amy played football in Melbourne for Aberfeldie in the Essendon and District Football League and was fortunate enough to win a premiership in 2019.
Amy also spent time with both Sunbury and Gisborne Football clubs in various leadership roles before moving to Mansfield in 2024 where she was a prominent player in the eagles inaugural season, winning the club's best and fairest award and representing the league in interleague football.
With such varying degrees of experience in the inaugural team, Amy enjoyed sharing her knowledge acquired over the years from a few different clubs and watching all the girls find their craft.
Amy loves the fact that all the players are from such different professional backgrounds, making up a really diverse mix and feels privileged to be a part of the coaching panel in season 2025.
Both Davey and Amy encourage any girls wishing to try their hand at football to come on down to training at the Recreation Reserve when pre-season recommences on January 21.
Season 2025 promises to be another exciting year both on-field and off with greater integration into the senior club.
"It is hoped that the club can secure several night matches next season so it would be great to get the support of the town as the girls embark on another promising season," Holliday said.
Any players 16 and over who would like to be part of a fun and inclusive club, are encouraged to email David Holliday at davidholliday137@gmail.com.
