THE Hy Undies team headed north to NSW last weekend, April 1 and 2, where their Cars 78 and 68 crossed the line first and second, respectively, in the same class at the Motor Events Sydney GP.
At the wheel in Hy Undies Car 68 were Stuart Wadsworth, Brett Smith, Mia Wadsworth and John Ford (Sydney–based fill–in driver).
The other vehicle Hy Undies Car 78 was driven by team members Paul Allen, Kit Rundle, Steve Ward and Aaron Trecento.
In the pit were Michelle Tremellen and Steve Trecento, who supported both cars during the 16–hour event, with three hours on Friday night and 13 hours on Saturday.
Car 68 had radiator and clutch issues on Friday night, which saw it start in last position the following day.
Meanwhile, Car 78 was faultless all weekend except for an impromptu driver leg cramp issue which saw the vehicle forced to return to the pit a bit earlier than expected on Saturday.
Despite a disappointing start on Friday night, Car 68 was driven steadily, and the team focused and clawed their way back, getting to third position at 4pm.
Car 78 maintained the first position from noon Saturday for 10 hours and finished 10 laps in front of the second–place getter.
Thanks to some team on–track strategy, Car 68 took over the second position with an hour and a half to go.
This battle made for a nail–biting finish, especially for those in the pit watching the live timing, as Hy Undies 68 and FAHRT battled for 2nd position.
Second place went to Hy Undies Car 68, beating third–placed FAHRT racing by 4.4 seconds.
One of the drivers 16–year–old Mia Wadsworth, also received an encouragement award from the race officials after a series of unfortunate events, including delayed flights, nearly had her not attend the event.
