ON Friday March 10, St. Mary's Primary School ran the annual swimming carnival at the Mansfield Pool.
Everyone was very excited to gather at our school and get organised into their four sports Houses: Delatite (Blue), Jamieson (Green), Stirling (Yellow) and Timbertop (Red).
There was lots of singing and chanting as we all walked down to the Mansfield Pool dressed in our team colours.
During the day, we had different competitions in the two pools.
Grades three to six were in the big pool and swam freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke.
There were also noodle races as well as freestyle and kickboard relays.
Grades Prep to two were in the little pool and competed in noodle, egg–and–spoon, kickboard and rubber ducky races.
The prep students were keen to be in the pool because they had just had swimming lessons the two weeks before.
They were amazing, they were very competitive and swam well.
The grade six sports captains helped them in the pool, which was a lot of fun.
The best part of the day was the grade six versus teachers lilo race.
It was really crazy, the teachers kept trying to cheat by letting down our lilos and getting in the way of the race.
But one of our student teams won, which was great.
We were really impressed by how well everyone participated.
Everyone came and had a try at the different types of swimming, even if they weren't very good at it, they still had a go and earned points for their house.
They also cheered all the swimmers and supported students on the other teams.
It was a lovely sunny day, and we enjoyed being outside, having fun in the water and dancing to the music that was playing.
It was a very close competition, with Jamieson just beating Delatite to win the carnival and the swimming trophy.
Congratulations to Jamieson House.
