IT has been back to back weekends of championship racing for our Mansfield swimmers with entries at both the Victorian State Sprints at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC) in Melbourne followed by the Victorian Country Championships in Traralgon.
Rowena (Rowie) Creighton (12) headed off to MSAC for the Victorian State Sprints on Saturday, January 13.
This is the first time that a Mansfield Swim Club member has competed in this event so it was a new experience all round.
With more than 1000 swimmers competing in this two-day meet, it was big and noisy with plenty going on.
Rowie had a stellar performance in the 12 years 50m freestyle, leading all the way through her heat to touch first with a new personal best time.
An amazing experience and a great start to the year.
We backed that up with three swimmers competing at the Victorian Country Championships in Traralgon from January 20 to 22.
This swim meet brings together the top swimmers from all over country Victoria for a three-day meet.
Day one on Saturday saw Kezi Wolfe bring home a fantastic swim in the 12 years 100m freestyle with a new personal best time to add to her bag.
Day two on the Sunday had two Mansfield swimmers in the pool, with Hannah Setchell taking on the 11U 50m freestyle with a great performance.
Kezi dived in for her second race of the weekend, competing in the 12 years 100m breast stroke and grabbing another personal best time.
Day three the Monday saw two swimmers in three events.
Lara Seaton started the day with the 11U 50m butterfly - a great swim in a strong field.
Mansfield completed the meet with both Hannah and Lara racing in the 11U 50m breast stroke.
With a cracking personal best for both girls it was a great way to finish up.
Many thanks to Andy Setchell and Rachel Wolfe for taking on the role of team managers for the weekend.
We’re very proud of all of our swimmers competing at these events – it’s a year round commitment to their swimming including travel to Benalla over winter for training.
Well done!
These swim meets can only happen with the strong support from our club parents and families.
Many thanks for being part of your swimmer’s sporting journey.
