THE Mansfield Clay Target Club monthly shoot was held on Sunday in calm and sunny conditions.

There were 30 competitors from other clubs including representation from Euroa, Wangaratta, Yarrawonga, Alexandra, Woods Point, Cosgrove, Bendigo and Loddon District, making up five squads.

It was the annual Anzac Memorial shoot, generously sponsored by David Kirley of DK Roofing and Cladding.

Four events were on the fixture with 100 targets for the day; the first 5 target point score eye opener, 25 target double barrel, 30 target continental double barrel and 40 target ball trap.

All events contributed to an overall high gun award.

The eye opener event resulted in nine shooters hitting all targets first barrel for a score of 15.

AA grade; Mick Ward (Alexandra), A grade; Marty McLachlan (Mansfield) and Peter Watkins (Cosgrove), B grade; Jason Foster (Mansfield), Bob Glossip (Yarrawonga), Al Kidd (Mansfield), and Darren Clarke (Mansfield).

C grade; Geoff Foster (Mansfield) and Ian Larner (Alexandra).

It was straight into the double barrel cash divide with some outstanding shooting, seven shooters came home clean with 25, including AA grade; Mick Ward and Fred Heinze (Bendigo).

A Grade; Mingo Diaz (Mansfield), Geoff McLure (Alexandra) and Anthony Kirley (Mansfield). B Grade; Darren Clarke (Mansfield).

C grade; John Desmond (Mansfield).

Shooters were over to layout two for the 30 target Continental double barrel, with targets thrown randomly both vertically and horizontally.

Darryl Hunt (Yarrawonga) won the overall prize with 30/30, Fred Heinze took out second in AA grade 27/30.

Two competitors shot 28 in A grade, after a shoot off Mingo Diaz won with 34/36 over Anthony Kirley 33/36.

B grade was also determined by a shoot off with Al Kidd 29/31 and Bob Glossip 28/30. Visiting for the first time from Loddon District Greg Murphy won C grade 28 from local Phil McDonough 26.

All shooters adjourned for a roast chicken and salad lunch before tackling the challenging last event, 40 target ball trap.

Similar to continental with random targets both vertically and horizontally but at wider angles and faster pace.

Fred Heinze took out overall, breaking 38 targets.

AA grade was won by Mick Ward 37/41, and Al Kidd 36/41.

A grade first was Fred Heinze 38 and Mingo Diaz 37.

B grade; Bob Glossip 32 and Darren Clarke 31.

C grade; Greg Murphy 36 and Ken Skinner 33.

After all events were run and won two competitors came in only missing 5 targets for the day.

A shoot–off involving 5 ball trap targets was shot by Mingo Diaz and Fred Heinze, with Mingo victorious.

Mansfield Clay Target Club hosts the North East Zone shoot the third Sunday of each month; the next competition will be shot May 15 at 10:30am. Spectators and new shooters who wish to come and try always welcome.
