OVERCAST conditions and intermittent showers did not stop the Mansfield Clay Target Club's monthly shoot last Sunday, March 19
Thirty–eight competitors were divided into seven squads, with representatives from Alexandra, Euroa, Woods Point, Bendigo, Wangaratta, Yarrawonga, Albury, Colbinabbin, Cohuna, Morwell, Numurkah, Corowa, and Werribee.
The big events for the day were a 50 target Ball Trap, a 35 target double barrel and a 25 target point score.
The championship event commenced with a five target point score eye opener.
Sharing in the cash divide with perfect scores were Brett Ford (Corowa), Travis Williams (Colbinabbin), Greg Hipwell (Cohuna), Daniel Chinn (Woods Point), Phillip Desmond (Mansfield), Steve Russell (Morwell), Ryan Logan (Numurkah), Geoff McLure (Alexandra), Bob Glossip (Wangaratta), Ken Skinner (Mansfield), David Luelf (Mansfield), Jo–Anne Ford (Yarrawonga), Chris Climas (Mt Bogong) and Tom McGrath (Alexandra).
The 25 target point score championship was a shoot–off between Bendigo's Rod Bartholomew and Woods Point's Daniel Chinn.
Rod reigned supreme and took the overall and A grade honours 96/96, while Daniel took AA grade 95/96.
Second AA was Brett Ford 83/84 and second A grade was Ryan Logan 74/75.
Mansfield's Darren Clarke and Rebecca Kirley took the B grade with 72/75 and 70/75 respectively, while C grade winners were Tom McGrath 67/75 and Mansfield club president John Desmond 62/75.
Next up was the 25 target Double Barrel Cash Divide with 14 shooters across the grades taking the cash.
AA grade recipients included Brett Ford, Scott McKenzie and Greg Hipwell, while A grade recipients included Cameron Ford, Tony Rohrlach, Geoff McLure, Marty McLachlan, Trevor Newman and Rod Bartholomew.
B grade was Rebecca Kirley, Jo–Anne Ford, Darren Clark and Chris Climas, while C grade had a single winner, Tom Apps.
After lunch, competitors prepared for the main event.
Ball trap is shot double barrel with more challenging targets thrown at higher speed and greater angles both vertically and horizontally.
Brett Ford took overall and A grade with 47, while Al Kidd took AA with 44.
B grade winners were Darren Clark 41 and Bob Glossip 40, and C grade winners were Ian Cooksey 44 with Cameron Ford 40.
The North East zone team representatives were awarded from only North East zone shooters and included Scott McKenzie, Phillip Desmond, Al Kidd, Ian Cooksey and Rod Bartholomew with reserves Travis Williams and Ryan Logan.
Shooters, spectators and family members all participated to ensure a smoothly run day of competition with everyone chipping in with scoring and refereeing.
